Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to offer general
statements and data concerning the infant commuter
airline industry. In a preliminary study of an
industry one examines the common characteristics instead
of giving specific information on the smaller organizations
that make-up the industry. Because these commuter
airlines might have many similarities to future airline
systems which may evolve to serve the intercity air
transportation need and because these airlines are today
operating with minimal aircraft in undefined roles, the
project is especially timely.
