For the past three months, I have been an intern at New Detroit, Inc. (NDI) in the Race Relations Division. NDI, one of the oldest civic organization in the country is located in Detroit. NDI is a nonprofit urban coalition that services the metropolitan Detroit area, which includes Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties. It began as a result of the 1967 urban revolt in the city of Detroit. The organization is the culmination of a social movement, the Civil Rights Movement, that was centered around achieving political, social, and economic justice for African-Americans. The current three-fold mission of NDI includes community self-empowerment, advocacy for minority rights, and promoting workplace and community/neighborhood diversity. My Senior Individualized Project will be divided into six chapters. Chapter One is entitled "Detroit Politics Today", Chapter Two-"NDI-a case study of a civic organization", Chapter Three "The Greater Cleveland Roundtable", Chapter Four "The Beginning: NDI and 1967", Chapter 5 "NDI, 25 years later', and the Conclusion "NDI -A success or failure?"If you are not a current K College student, faculty, or staff member, email firstname.lastname@example.org to request access to this SIP.
