Studies on the Diplomatic Mission of the United States Embassy in Paris, France, and the Foreign Service as a Career
Abstract
This Senior Individualized Project stems from my interests in
government and French. I originally pursued an internship with the
state Department in order to expand on my previous experience with
the role of the government, a Bicentennial Intern who taught
schoolchildren about the founding of the United States Constitution
and the era of its origination. As a result of the internship at the embassy in Paris, I have
developed a text in which I describe the role of an embassy and
provide basic information about the Foreign Service. In addition
to researching these two topics, my internship has given me
insights on diplomacy and the work and lifestyle of diplomats. My
experience has provided me with the tools to analyze both subjects
to arrive at a better understanding of the dynamics of foreign
relations as well as to pursue my interest in foreign languages.
I conclude my SIP by exploring some of the questions that were
raised by my internship at the embassy. If you are not a current K College student, faculty, or staff member, email dspace@kzoo.edu to request access to this SIP.
