Abstract
Recently, Eastern Europe has experienced far reaching and profound changes as the various governmental establishments have initiated reforms. The establishment of more democratic governments in Poland, Hungary, and very recent developments in East Germany are viewed with great surprise, optimism, and hope by Western observers for the creation of a freer Europe. The following will focus on East Germany and demonstrate why such profound changes have occurred within that nation.
