Abstract
This thesis brings together several major works in an
effort to show the possible effects of a Brazilian agricultural
diversification program on world coffee trade, the
Brazilian coffee sector, and Brazilian development. The thesis
is divided into six basic sections. The first deals with the
importance of coffee in the economies of the coffee producing
countries. The point is made that coffee producing countries are all underdeveloped countries and rely on
coffee, to varying degrees, as an important export to the
developed countries of the world. Coffee's importance in the land, labor, and investment sectors of the developing countries
is also discussed.
