Abstract
The main objective of my particular research was to extend the knowledge of the catalytic polymer PEl, into the more complex reactions which enzymes are capable of conducting, particularly biosynthetic reactions and reactions involving cofactors. An important class of enzymes in this latter category are those in which the amino group of a lysine is used to carry a pyridoxal-5’-phosphate cofactor in the course of the reaction. The polyethylenimine polymers (PEI) with their free primary amines make excellent models for the study of enzymes containing lysine residues in the active site.
