Abstract
I decided to trace the evolution of the rights of the accused and of
criminals. My study will focus on the Constitution, ideals of
democracy, civil liberties, the Warren Court, and the more recent
Supreme Courts. The process and functioning of the criminal system
have their basis in the ideals of democracy as well as the writings of
the Constitution. The values and cornerstones for the United States
of America are found in these two areas. I plan to examine these
values and ideals and evaluate how effectively these ideals are
represented within our society and our criminal system today.
