Carl Orff is a contemporary German composer whose present-day fame rests not only on his musical-theater pieces, but also on his extensive work in the field of music education. His Schulwerk offers exciting, effective answers to some of the problems live mentioned above. I wouldn't suggest that everyone in music education drop everything and run out to buy a xylophone. Nor would there be sense in purchasing Orff equipment for all the schools, especially before Orif is thoroughly understood in this country. I do suggest that anyone concerned with America's music education program look at Orff. The possibilities of his approach cannot be ignored. If you are not a current K College student, faculty, or staff member, email email@example.com to request access to this SIP.
