A Study of the Characteristics of Profitability for Commercial Banks in Michigan

It is the intent of this study to analyze the performance of commercial banks in Michigan. Specifically, it is the purpose of this initial investigation to determine: (a) those characteristics which low earning banks have in common; (b) those characteristics which high earning banks have in common; and (c) those characteristics which are unique to each classification of banks. This will indicate, hopefully, which operational and environmental characteristics of commercial banks in Michigan can be used to predict profitability and to give bank management added insight into the profitable operation of their banks.
