Abnormal Hemoglobin : Methods of Detection
MetadataShow full item record
My Senior Individualized Project involved research in the area of hemoglobinpathologies in the laboratory of Dr. Donald Rucknagel, Department of Human Genetics of the University of Michigan Medical School. My assignment was to analyze the blood hemolysate of one of Dr. Rucknagel's patients. This sample showed no evidence of electrophoretic deviation from Hb A. Due to the analysis that had been performed previous to my arrival and hemological characteristics present, the staff hypothesized that the variant abnormal hemoglobin I that I was assigned was a silent alpha chain sUbstitution. I was to determine the validity of their hypothesis.
