Abstract
This thesis is a study of the evolution and collapse of the Convention People's Party in Ghana. The principal figure one must always keep in mind, although not always mentioned, is Kwame Nkrumah. The assertion has often been put forward that Kwame Nkrumah was the Convention People's Party. Because of this and his international influence, Dr. Nkrumah is perhaps the most impressive, yet controversial politician in Africa today. His philosophy and ideology have intrigued and impressed me since I first encountered them on foreign study in Liberia. This thesis, then, is my response to the impact of his political endeavors for the people of Ghana (although some would question this) and their reaction to him. In response to Nkrumah's physical absence, perhaps it will be possible for students of Ghanaian politics to objectively study his theories in terms of their universal value to all Africans as opposed to viewing them as his personal goals.
