The failure of socialism in America is a complex problem, and the question, "Why is America one of the few major industrial countries without a major socialist party represented in its political system?", is a difficult question with no real concrete solutions. The only certainty about the answer to this question is that the contributing factors are many, and they are all intertwined with one another. To understand this failure, it is necessary to study this problem in conjunction with external and internal factors and on a comparative level. This comparative analysis, however, should be one conducted within the American political system. Consequently, this study involves a comparison of the American socialist parties to another relatively similar American minor political party, the Progressive Party of 1912.en_US
