Abstract
This paper attempts to examine the influence
of the Olympic Games in the international arena and
considers future alternatives which the Olympic movement
may choose in order to continue to retain it's position
in the international scene.
This examination will focus on the period from 1944
to 1984, revolving mainly around four issues (1) the
evolution of the German question throughout the period,
(2) the evolution of the question of Chinese participation
in the Olympics throughout this period,(3) the question
of South African and Rhodesean participation, in the
latter phase of this period, and (4) the role of sport
federations, international organizations, and business
interests in the Olympics throughout the period.
