Abstract
The first section of this paper is simply a brief history of
the Sixth Circuit and the Western District of Michigan and a
background of some of the more famous names and faces that have
been involved with the Sixth Circuit. Also, included are some
facts about the increasing caseload in these courts.
The second section addresses Chief Justice Burger's concern
of increasing caseload and of the rhetorical question, "Is the
diversity jurisdiction the problem?" The conclusion I came to
conflicts with the Supreme Court Chief Justice, and I tried to
support it as thoroughly as possible. I, also, made an attempt
at a solution.
The third and final section of the paper describes the
special project that I did. I cut each case up into a category
for types of jurisdiction, a category that defines the different
types of law suits or complaints, and a category involving
different types of compensation and other miscellanceous parts of
the case. It is in this section that I include personal insights
about settlement in today's legal society and same incidents that
have occured during the course of my legal studies that relate to
these topics.
