The Decline of the Philippines: The Result of American Imperialism
MetadataShow full item record
The Philippines is presently on the verge of political and economic collapse. Most political watchers would readily dismiss the problem as an outcome of the Marcos dictatorship. This conclusion is superficial because it overlooks the fact that the United States is responsible for maintaining Marcos' oppressive rule through military assistance. The United States' present role is part of a longstanding commitment in the Philippines to protect and maintain both its military installations and business investments. In the history of Philippine-American relations, the latter has consistently encouraged Philippine dependency through a system of "special relations." This thesis will review such treaties and agreements, and reveal their negative effects and exploitative nature which have prevented the development of Philippine nationalism, and instead, has encouraged the decline of the republic. If you are not a current K College student, faculty, or staff member, email firstname.lastname@example.org to request access to this SIP.
