Abstract
This SIP project was undertaken in Brazil because of a great interest of mine in that country. What I have attempted to gain through this study is a "picture" of representation and political ideals in a second-world nation, bettering both my understanding of political science and of Brazil. Uberlandia was chosen as the city for this study because I had previously lived there and am somewhat familiar with the families that live there and the general "mood" of the city. Of course this study only incorporates one city for analysis. I cannot claim that what is true in Uberlandia is true for all of Brazil. However, what was found in Uberlandia can be found in at least some other Brazilian cities, especially those located in the Western portion of the state of Minas Gerais, in which Uberlandia is located.
