A two year expedition, Operation Drake, had been in planning
since 1974 by a group of people belonging to the Scientific
Exploration Society of Britain. It was decided that young people, to be called Young Explorers,
would be chosen from many countries throughout the world. Each
country involved would choose their representative Young Explorers
by their own methods.
