The Legal System's Response to Spouse Abuse
The purpose encompassed in this study is to describe and document the response of the legal system to spouse abuse, while labeling shortcomings which can be corrected. It must be emphasized, however, that this project is meant to explore and define the problem, not to design solutions to either spouse abuse or the legal system's response. Such a goal would be impossible because spouse abuse is the end result of historical and cultural biases and therefore only time and education can correct it. Also, a remedy to the legal system's shortcomings would entail more time and research than was available for this project.
