The ultimate aim of this Senior Independent Project is to develop a study which could illuminate the gray area that exists between international politics and national politics. This gray area is often referred to as linkage politics. More specifically, this study will concentrate on exploring the relationship between political parties and foreign policy in a very limited sense. The intended goals of this study and the connections so amorphously stated should become clearer as this organizational chapter progresses. First a methodological approach must be chosen to guide the present inquiry and help shape the basic questions that this inquiry seeks to answer. I have selected to employ the case study as the basic methodology in this project. The introduction is then relegated to an elaboration and defense of the case study. A clarification of the intent, scope, and purpose of this study as well as the hypotheses and proposed relationships to be studied will follow.
