Abstract
The precarious balance between mankind and the land is a recurring factor in the cyclical history of Mexican civilizations. The struggle to become a nation has been a struggle with the land; present within the territory of Mexico is almost every type of ecological condition found in the world, in greater or less degree. The patchwork of ecological and geographical environments has produced a multiplicity and diversity of human societies in Mexico.
