This SIP begins with a look at the Civil Rights Movement and the status of women within it. It moves from that into a look at the relationship black women have with the Feminist Movement. It is necessary to explore many aspects of this question: what are the situations of black women, today, in this country, how are these situations different from those of white women; how does white female experience differ from black female experience in terms of relationships to men, relationships to other women, responses to the Feminist and Black Movements; how do the differences between black and white female experience influence response to the ways in which the status of blacks and women need to be changed, and what are the needed routes to change.
