The following analysis evaluates the problems of world order as they appear in 1981. In attempting to answer Heilbroner's query, "Is there hope for mankind?" it focuses on the myriad of forces challenging the nation-state system and illuminates their complex interrelationships. A latter section summarizes and critiques several recent world order paradigms, touching upon their major deficiencies. The concluding chapter outlines an alternative perspective, drawing parallels between the international and domestic systems and suggests how the forces at work in the international system can be constructively channeled to this end.
