Finland and the Soviet Union: A Study in the Methods of Influence by a Superpower

This is a paper on Finland and her historical political problem in dealing with the Soviet Union. Finland has been under Russian dominance since the early nineteenth century. Finland has also been more successful than other states in avoiding a complete absorption by the Soviets or Russians. This paper examines the whys and wherefores of this success and looks at more recent trends in the relations between the two.
