The Reaction of Hydroxylammonium Chloride With Iron(III) Sulfate

The purpose of this investigation is to compare the results given by the indicator and with the potentiometer. This study is motivated by concern of the fact that a class of first year chemistry students obtained results corresponding to a change in the oxidation state of nitrogen of 1.98 units. It was hoped that an explanation would be found to explain the deviation of the change in oxidation state from exactly 2.0. The dependence of the reaction on pH and air oxidation was also studied.
