The first reported case of therapy of vitiligo involving ultraviolet irradiation was by Do Wo 11ontgomery in 1904. He used a Finsen lamp on a 11exican child to cure the discoloration. After nine exposures of ten minutes each the areas became red and after four months nearly all the dBpigmented areas on the boy had returned to their normal coloro In 1907 a fellow named Buschle reported that depigmentation did not occure with either a Finsen lamp or a carbon-arc lamp, but he did find success with a Mercury vapor lampo In several cases pigmentation returned within a period of thirteen days to four vleeks, and after one months treatment pigment had returned to the hair follicles and. began to spread across the depigmented areas. Stein also found this proceedure sucessful in addition to some other methods~1)
