Abstract
2,6 - Dioxo - 3 - pthaliminopiperidine (Thalidomide) was one of the best somnolent drugs ever produced. It proved to be .virtually non-narcotic, and with extended use, produced only mild toxic effects. Unfortunately, women who took the drug between the twenty-eighth and forty-second day after conception bore children affected with phocomelia. As a result thalidomide was removed ,entirely from the market by March 1962.
