Abstract
Vanadium chemistry has recently attracted much attention as the medicinal and biochemical applications are being explored. Although all three oxidation states are physiologically important, this project focussed on vanadium's IV and V states. Despite the fact that no elemental analysis was done on any of the complexes we formed, we are fairly confident that we synthesized two new complexes ofthe VO3+ moiety as well as developed a new method of synthesis for an already characterized oxovandium(V) complex. Our most substantial characterizing techniques which strongly suggest that we indeed formed [VvOsal2en]BF4,[VvOsal2en]BF4, and [VvOsal2en]BF4 are the lH NMR analysis and the phenolate-oxygen to vanadium charge transfer displayed in our electronic spectra.
