Abstract
Methods were developed for the synthesis of
fatty acid analogs bearing iodophenyl moieties at the
terminal position. The syntheses of w-(p-iodophenyl)
dodecanoic acid and its corresponding 2-palmitol-l,3-
disubstituted triglyceride were successfully performed.
These agents upon radiolabeling could have potential use
for evaluation of regional myocardial fatty acid
metabolism. The radioiodinated triglyceride analog was
synthesized to ascertain if such analogs could serve as
substrates for lipoprotein lipase, thereby delivering
radiolabled free fatty acids to myocardial cells upon in
vivo hydrolysis.
