Lipoproteins are water-soluble complexes of high molecular weight composed of lipids (cholesterol, trigly-, cerides, phospholipids) and one or more specific proteins, called apolipoproteins, with which lipids are capable of combining. Circulating lipoproteins are the lipid-carrying particles of the blood plasma. These particles are highly ordered and are believed to hold to the lipid core model. This model proposes that the apolar lipids - triglycerides and cholesterol esters - occupy the core of the lipoproteins, and that 'proteins- phospholipids and unesterified cholesterol - constitute the surface. If you are not a current K College student, faculty, or staff member, email email@example.com to request access to this SIP.
