Abstract
The specific focus of this thesis is multiply-bonded molybdenum and rhenium complexes with monodentate and bidentate phosphine ligands. Included is a study of the series, M02Cl4(PR3)4 in attempts to establish a correlation between the δ-δ* transition energy and published NMR and IR spectral parameters. Attempts with rhenium and monodentate phosphines is also discussed. The work with the bidentate ligand dppp (1,2 bis(diphenylphosphino) propane) is discussed with several interesting results. Also the initial work with dppben (1,2 bis(diphentlphosphino) benzene is discussed, with reference to the molybdenum analogs.
