Considerable interest has been generated in the development of PNP inhibitors due to the recent characterization of a genetic disease by Gilbert and colleagues in 1975, in which the patient exhibited severe lymphopenia ( a lack of white blood cells ), deficiency of cellular immunity and a complete lack of PNP activity. The association of a deficiency of PNP activity with T-cell lymphopenia suggests that a PNP inhibitor may be potentially useful in the treatment of T-cell leukemia, supression of host versus graph response, and autoimmune disease without destroying the patient's humoral immunity. If you are not a current K College student, faculty, or staff member, email email@example.com to request access to this SIP.
