Abstract
Cyclen and THP-cyclen were synthesized and combined with Pb(NC>3)2 to form Pb-ligand complexes. Achange in the absorption intensity and character of Pb2+ was observed when chelated with the synthesized ligands, indicating a successful manipulation ofthe electronic environment ofPb2+. The Pb-cyclen complex, which has four potential coordination sites and is known to activate the lone pair of electrons on Pb2+, showed a large emission between 500 and 700 nm up to 5 \xs after excitation at 266 nm. The Pb-THP-cyclen complex, which has eight potential coordination sites and is known to deactivate the lone pair ofelectrons on Pb2+, showed no emission after excitation at 266 nm. Overall, stereochemical manipulation of the electronic environment ofPb2+ resulted ina change ofthe emissive properties of Pb2+ complexes.
