'Justify the Bloodshed': Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood and the Politics of Violence
MetadataShow full item record
This paper seeks to examine, in some depth, the evolution of the Muslim Brotherhood as a nonviolent political organization in Egypt. Despite the oppression of various regimes and international backlash, the Brotherhood has remained a source of comfort and inspiration for the Egyptian people, yet as an Islamist organization remains vilified in most media outlets. Without advocating the implementation of an Islamic system of government, I argue that the Brotherhood as a political party should be allowed to participate in democratic elections due to its history of cooperation, compliance, and nonviolence.
