Abstract
A student delegate at Kalamazoo College's third Mock Democratic Convention, March 16, 1940. The student is not identified, but is possibly Kiyo Okami '40. His white ribbon signifies that he served as a state delegate chairman. At the 1940 convention, some 600 high school students were invited from high schools in Michigan and nearby states. The Mayor of Kalamazoo gave a welcoming address, and the keynote speech was given by Kalamazoo College junior Jack Montgomery. One of the highlights of the 1940 convention was the loss of power during the evening balloting session. The nomination went to Cordell Hull. Although this photograph is not dated, Paul McNutt was one of the candidates for the Democratic nomination in 1940. The photographer is not identified.
