While the YMCA of the United States focuses on organizing youth through sports and the YMCA of Germany focuses more directly on religion, ACJ takes more of / a human development approach, focusing on meeting the social needs of the entire community. Developing programs on a religious, lay, and ecumenical level, ACJ provides services to aid the "integral development of the person". Established 25 years ago in Costa Rica, the organization continues to fight for justice and peace, while also creating a union to defend human rights. The three main areas that ACJ has dedicated itself to contribute to are community development, formation and leadership of youths, and infant and childcare.Item Clinica Integrada de Tibas(2000-02) Anthony, Navin; Nowalski, JorgeIn my experience at the Clinica Integral de Tibas, I was able to follow and observe certain doctors from different parts of health care and understand their role in keeping the community healthy. I followed around 2 family medical doctors, a nutritionist, and an emergency medicine doctor during my experience. The doctors explained to me the system that was present in Costa Rica and also allowed me to watch certain medical procedures. The doctors also explained to me the medical significance behind certain problems that people had and what types of treatments were available. My primary reason for analyzing the Clinica Integral de Tibas was to get a better picture of the health system in Costa Rica and understand the influence that one clinic can have on a community. In a community like Tibas, a clinic has a great impact on the lifestyle, living conditions and development of the city. I developed an understanding that the patient/doctor relationship in this clinic goes beyond the idea of just physical health, but a holistic health that incorporates all aspects of daily living.Item Doctor and Patient Relationships: Clinica Integrada de Tibas(2001-02-02) Sila, Gwen H.; Barquero, Jose FabioThe scene studied for my ICRP was the Clinica de Tibas. The clinic is a cooperative funded by the CCSS and an EBAIS clinic as well. In order to observe the major areas ofthe clinic, I spent a week in three different sections ofthe clinic: the small clinic in San Miguel, Family Medicine, and Emergencies. My primary reasons for spending time in the clinic were to observe the relationship between doctors and patients, the efficiency of a cooperatively run clinic, and to gain a general understanding of how the Costa Rican health care system functions. looked at how doctor-patient relationships at the clinic seemed to differ from doctor-patient relationships in the U.S. as well as how doctor-patient relationships differed in different areas of the clinic.
